If a traveler searches for "villa with a pool near you" on Google, or asks ChatGPT the same thing, does your site show up? For most short-term rental owners the answer is no, and every missed answer is a booking handed to the platforms and their commissions.
You don't need a developer to fix the basics. Here's the checklist we run on every site before writing a tailored audit.

Here are the eight fixes at a glance, in the order we tackle them:
| # | Fix | Effort | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | One clear title per page | Low | The line search engines weigh most |
| 2 | Make the page fast | Medium | Ranking and conversion factor |
| 3 | Cover local SEO | Medium | Travelers search by place |
| 4 | Add structured data | Low | Makes you eligible for rich results |
| 5 | Be readable to AI | Low | Wins answers in ChatGPT and Perplexity |
| 6 | Earn a few good links | Ongoing | A handful moves a small site |
| 7 | Keep content fresh | Ongoing | Each post is a new page that can rank |
| 8 | Measure, then iterate | Low | Double down on what works |
1. One clear title per page
Your homepage <title> is the single most important line of text on your site.
Make it say what you offer, where, and for whom:
"Sea-view apartment in Biarritz · sleeps 4 · book direct"
Vague titles like "Welcome" or "Home" waste the slot search engines weigh most.
2. Make the page fast
Speed is a ranking factor and a conversion factor. The usual wins, in order of impact:
- Compress and lazy-load images (a 4 MB hero photo is the #1 culprit).
- Remove plugins and trackers you don't use.
- Pick a host with servers near your guests.
3. Cover local SEO
Travelers search by place. Help Google connect you to it:
| Signal | What to do |
|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | Claim it, add photos, keep hours current |
| Location keywords | Use the town and neighborhood in titles and headings |
| Local content | Write about the area: beaches, restaurants, events |
